Winter Storm and Power Outage Safety
Environment Canada has issued a warning due to the major storm that is expected to hit Toronto on Friday and Saturday. Freezing rain and strong winds are predicted, as well as blowing snow that will likely reduce visibility.
A reminder to stay home if you are able, and to use caution if you need to drive. Power outages are also possible. Keep the power outage tips below handy.
Before the storm, prepare by making sure that your mobile phone and other devices are fully charged, and turn off or unplug all unnecessary electrical devices.
If there is a power outage in your home, check Toronto Hydro's outage map for updates, put your mobile devices on power-saving mode, and always stay back at least 10 metres (the length of a school bus) from any downed powerlines.
